Sensory Design Guidelines

"Sensory Experiences instrumentally helped us uncover our full potential by developing a multisensorial approach to how we innovate – from our packs to our products and even our advertising campaigns".

Sensory Experiences instrumentally helped us uncover our full potential by developing a multisensorial approach to how we innovate – from our packs to our products & even our advertising campaigns.

Sensory design guidelines detail the colours, shapes, sounds, music, textures and sensations that communicate brand values and enhance a product experience, through every interaction and touch-point.

Based on cross-modal research, the guidelines can be applied to everything from product development and packaging design, to branding and advertising.

Using these guidelines, AXE's brand and product development teams have re-shaped the aerosol can, the sound the spray makes, the colour of the formula,  the graphics on-pack, the language in comms and the music in adverts; every single element enhancing perceptions of freshness and efficacy, and exuding confidence and masculinity, through the all the senses.

BRAND-IN-A-BOX

The Sensory design guidelines come together in a brand box, with sounds, materials, packaging and formulation examples; so people can see, hear, feel and smell the brand.

A multisensory brand needs to come to life in a multisensory way. The final manifestation is a brand in a box which includes sounds, videos; materials to touch, aromas to smell; different mechanisms and formulations to feel. By opening the box you are immersed in the sensory world of the brand.

AXE’s new positioning, advertising campaign, and a totally new deodorant product are testament to the power of this valuable piece of work.
